Capturing Memories During a Busy Holiday Season

Every year November and December seem to fly by! While these months are full of special memories, traditions, and celebrations, it can be easy to let them pass without really getting to savor the moments that make them so magical. Photos and videos allow us to stop and take a second to appreciate the moment, and they remind us of those moments as they become memories. This holiday season, Picture This Organized wants to help you make memories and enjoy your time with family or friends. With this holiday guide, you will not only know what you want to check off of your winter bucket list, but how to capture each moment along the way.

Traditions at Home

Some of the sweetest holiday memories come from simple traditions or moments spent at home. Baking can be such a fun way to spend an afternoon getting in the holiday spirit. The girls in our family always love to take a day to bake and decorate cookies together. This year we even have some toddler cookie testers to help us out! Even though our creations don’t always turn out, we have a blast spending time baking together. One recipe that is always a hit, however, are these gingerbread cookies. Other festive traditions may include decorating the house, sipping hot chocolate, watching favorite holiday movies, competing in a gingerbread decorating contest, or writing letters to Santa. Picture This Organized can help you preserve all of these memories by scanning letters and recipe cards so you never lose track of them!

Getting Out with Kids

Kids bring so much magic to the holidays. However, it can take a lot of planning and coordination to get everyone out of the house, not to mention actually capturing photos of the activities you do. There are lots of fun activities to enjoy with the whole family like sledding, visiting Santa, or taking a Polar Express train ride. Many kids also perform in Christmas programs around this time of year which is such a fun way to end the school semester and celebrate the upcoming holidays with your family. Saving recital programs or ticket stubs is a great way to preserve those memories. Picture This Organized can help you scan those pieces of memorabilia to use in a holiday album or to keep in your photo collection.

Fun for All Ages

No matter who you are spending the holidays with this year, there are so many activities to enjoy for people of all ages! Here in Denver, our family always goes to see a light display like Zoo lights, Hudson Gardens, or Blossom of Lights. We also love to go skiing, ice skating, and shop at a Christmas market like Christkindl. Other fun activities for the adults might be finding a popup Christmas bar, going to high tea or going to see the Nutcracker. In the midst of these festivities, don’t forget to grab the group and snap a photo or just take some candid shots as you go.

Keeping Your Photos in Order

When thinking about taking photos of different events, here are some of our favorite tips to keep it stress free and easy to manage. Remember to be flexible if kids don’t want to smile or pose. It captures the reality of the moment, and what seems stressful at the time can actually turn into a fond memory! If you are a mom, remember to get in some photos too, don’t just be the photographer. Your family will want to see you represented in those memories. To keep all of your photos in order, you can make albums on your phone for each event or just group all of your photos from the holiday season into one album. When working with Picture This Organized, we will sort and organize all of your photos by specific event and scan and digitize any pieces of memorabilia like Christmas cards and letters. Once we have your collection organized, we can also create a holiday album for you to display each year or gift to someone special.
