5 Reasons to be Thankful for Photos in 2019

‘Tis the season to be thankful. As you gather together with family and friends to reflect on all you’re grateful for, do photos make your list?

The continuing evolution of photos has dramatically changed the way we take, save, and share photos.

Our team at Picture This Organized made a list of five reasons to be thankful for photos. We hope these inspire you to create more photo memories this holiday season.

1. We carry a high-quality, digital camera with us everywhere we go.

Today’s access to smartphones gives us a high-quality camera in our pocket or purse, allowing us to take photos and videos anytime, anywhere.

While DSLR cameras are great for professionals and hobbyists, they aren’t as easy to carry around. And the latest smartphone cameras take amazing pictures. In fact, the new iPhone 11 and 11Pro have an improved camera with an additional lens that takes ultra-wide photos. The iPhone 11Pro also has added a third, telephoto lens.

And when you’re working with digital photos, quantity doesn’t matter. This allows you to snap as many photos as you want, and delete the ones you don’t like.

2. You don’t have to be an expert photographer to edit your own photos.

What if you took a photo that needs a few tweaks? Be thankful that today’s photo apps simplify photo editing, making it easy even for the beginner.

Whether you want to add a quick filter to your photo on Instagram, or you need to make small adjustments like red-eye reduction, or straightening, this previous post introduces you to easy-to-use photo editing tools.

3. Sharing photos has never been easier.

Taking and editing photos may be a snap, and it’s just as easy to share a photo with loved ones.

We can share photos almost instantly using apps like AirDrop or text messaging. For those who engage on social media, posting photos on Facebook or Instagram keep friends and family updated on the events of our lives.

Photo sharing sites like SmugMug are secure and user-friendly places to privately share large groups of photos. Read this post to find out how we use SmugMug to set up a family photo website for our clients.

4. Choices abound to help you turn your photos into gifts.

Photos make great gifts and there are so many online photo stores that make it easy to give something other than a 4 x 6 print.

Sites like Shutterfly and MPix have everything from small photo ornaments and holiday cards to gifts like calendars, blankets, phone cases, and mugs.

One of our favorite gifts is a custom-designed, keepsake photo album. Our team specializes in creating beautiful premium albums for our clients that capture photos and stories from trips, weddings, or a year in review. Let us know if we can create your next album project.

5. Photos preserve the memory and legacy of those we love.

Spend a little bit of time looking through photos on your phone, or flipping through an old scrapbook, and you’ll remember those you love and their life stories.

We can be thankful for the ways our photos help illustrate an important life event like a wedding or a family member’s memorial. They also preserve our heritage, as photos give us clues into our family history.

Most of us have large collections of print and digital photos. When we include metadata, or details with our photos like dates, location, names and facial recognition, our photos provide quick and easy reference points for the treasured stories in our lives.
